A delegation from the Municipality of Surda Abu Qash, headed by the Mayor, Mr. Mohammad Mousa Ramadan, and including the municipal surveyor, Mr. Salah Yassin, and the Public Relations Officer, Ms. Balqees Al-Jabari, paid an official visit to the Jerusalem Water Undertaking. The delegation was received by the Director General, Eng. Thaer Jalloud; the Director of the Engineering Department, Eng. Emil Abdo; and the Head of the Public Relations and Media Department, Mr. Fares Al-Malek, on Thursday, 2 April 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and explore ways to improve water services provided to citizens.
During the visit, the Mayor congratulated Eng. Thaer Jalloud on his appointment to his new position, wishing him continued success in his duties. In turn, Eng. Jalloud welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of the visit in enhancing partnership and joint cooperation to better serve citizens and improve the quality of services.
The meeting addressed the key challenges facing the water sector in Palestine, including restrictions imposed on water resources, as well as illegal connections and water theft from main pipelines, which negatively impact the regular supply of water to certain areas.
Both parties also discussed the main challenges affecting the areas of Surda and Abu Qash regarding water services, particularly water outages and distribution mechanisms across different supply lines. Possible solutions were explored to improve the situation, ensure more consistent distribution, and enhance service continuity.
The Water Undertaking also reviewed its ongoing efforts to develop an information system in coordination with municipalities to keep citizens informed about water distribution schedules and emergency outages. In addition, a 24-hour call center has been established to receive and follow up on complaints.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening continuous cooperation and communication to address citizens’ concerns and improve the quality of water services, in a manner that serves the residents of Surda and Abu Qash.
